Biography

 

Benjamin Davis was born in South Bend, Indiana. Growing up in a middle class family he had a religious upbringing attending Catholic Schools until he graduated from Saint Joseph's High School in 2011. Focusing mostly in ceramics he competed for three years at the Scholastic Art Competition winning numerous Gold and Silvers Keys at Regional Competition as well as a Silver Medal at Nationals in 2011. His time at Saint Joe was spent in the drama department and the art department. In 2009 he was accepted into the University of Notre Dame Artist Apprenticeship Program and had his first show at the Snite Museum of Art.  In 2010 he would be accepted into the K-12 Exhibition at the National Council for the Education of Ceramic Arts (NCECA) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania  and would do so again with special recognition the following year in Tampa Bay, Florida.

In 2015, he graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute with a BFA from the Sculpture department. During his time at the Institute he would keep active in numerous clubs and school sponsored events as well as a few work study jobs. In 2013, he was commissioned by the ballet group Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey to design and construct the first ever Janet Miller Award to be awarded at their Gala at the Kauffmen Center of the Performing Arts.

Benjamin Davis is still living in Kansas City, Missouri as a sculptor for hire.
